Zonal electrical power management architecture combining backplane AC-DC modules, shipboard UPS and wall-mount distribution for surface and subsurface platforms.
More than three decades of aero power conversion experience across rack mount supplies, converters, inverters, transformers and power conditioners.
Continuous-duty supplies for power generation plants, offshore platforms, machinery, medical equipment, LED lighting, solar and telecom cabinets.
Six proven product families cover the majority of defense and industrial power requirements. Each family shares a common qualification pedigree, so modifications rarely restart the test campaign — which is how programs recover schedule.

Navy integrators are consolidating distributed supplies into zonal architectures to cut cable weight, simplify maintenance and improve survivability. Our shipboard platform separates conversion, back-up and distribution into serviceable modules that share one backplane — a failed module is replaced in minutes without unwiring the cabinet.
Procurement teams lose the most time when a supplier discovers a standard late. The table below summarises the qualification envelopes our engineers work with daily, and what each one practically demands from a power supply design.
| Standard | Scope | Design Impact on the Power Supply |
|---|---|---|
| MIL-STD-810 | Environmental engineering | Thermal derating, vibration-tolerant magnetics, potting, altitude and humidity margins, salt-fog finishes. |
| MIL-STD-461 | EMI / EMC control | Multi-stage input filtering, shielded topologies, controlled switching edges, bonded chassis returns. |
| MIL-STD-1275 | 28 VDC vehicle power | Surge and spike clamping, cranking-dropout hold-up, reverse-polarity and load-dump survivability. |
| MIL-STD-1399 (Sec. 300) | Shipboard electrical power | 60 Hz / 400 Hz tolerance, transient recovery, tight regulation under unbalanced naval bus conditions. |
| MIL-STD-704 | Aircraft electrical power | Abnormal and emergency bus operation, power-interrupt ride-through, low-distortion 400 Hz interfaces. |
| MIL-S-901 | Shock (naval) | Hardened mounting, reinforced card retention, mass-balanced module and transformer supports. |
| IP65 / IP67 | Ingress protection | Sealed enclosures, MIL-spec circular connectors, conduction-cooled or fully potted thermal paths. |
Qualification scope is defined per program. Our engineering team will confirm the applicable test matrix, tailoring and evidence package for your specification before design release.
A repeatable engineering process is what keeps rugged power programs on schedule. This is the path every AJPS custom or modified-COTS build follows.
Input bus, output rails, load profile, transients, environment, connectors, mounting envelope and applicable MIL-STD tailoring are documented and confirmed in writing.
We first attempt to satisfy the specification from a proven COTS or MOTS chassis. Reusing a qualified platform cuts both NRE and test duration significantly.
Topology, magnetics, filtering, derating and thermal paths are reviewed against worst-case conditions, followed by mechanical and interface drawing release.
First articles are produced under our quality system, then verified for regulation, efficiency, EMI pre-compliance, thermal rise and abnormal-input behaviour.
Formal qualification, documentation, drawings, cut sheets and 3D models are delivered, with long-term production and lifecycle support thereafter.
Obsolescence monitoring, form-fit-function replacements and repair support keep legacy platforms fielded long after original components change.
AJ's Power Source, Inc. (AJPS) was established in 1987 as a Veteran Owned Small Business, CAGE code 0P327, with a single purpose: to design and manufacture power and power distribution equipment for military, aerospace, industrial, commercial and telecom applications. Our design team carries more than 100 combined years of power conversion experience.
Modified standard platforms reduce cost, risk and qualification time versus clean-sheet design.
Multi-rail, modular and pluggable architectures let one chassis serve several load profiles.
Sealed IP65/IP67, conduction-cooled and potted constructions for exposed installations.
Obsolescence management and form-fit-function replacements for fielded programs.

Configuration detailsProduct walkthrough videos, mechanical drawings, cut sheets, data sheets and 3D renderings help engineering teams validate fit, thermal clearance and connector interfaces early — long before a purchase order is written.
Registration and accreditation matter to auditors, primes and export customers. Our manufacturing operates under a registered quality management system, supported by documented traceability and conflict-minerals policy statements.
